Improving Math & Science Education in Vermont

Improving math and science education is a critical priority for Vermont technology businesses. On Wednesday we will join forces with the Vermont BioSciences Alliance and the Vermont Technology Council to learn about innovative science, technology, engineering and math education initiatives in Vermont schools from education professionals.

They, in turn, want to hear from us as to what we need from Vermont's schools and how we can support the schools in meeting business and research needs. By the end of the meeting, we hope to create a joint task force, with members from each of the associations, that will take the ideas generated from our discussions and find ways of implementing them with schools around Vermont.

Tom Tailer will talk about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math initiatives being offered at the high school level around the state. Tom is actively involved with the Governor's Institute and has organized competitions and teams from around the state to compete in science and engineering contests on a state, national, and international level.

Tom's talk will be followed by a brief presentation from Bob Hamilton from the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences about their outreach efforts that target elementary and middle school students. The ACPHS opened its doors on Water Tower Hill earlier this school year in an effort to help Vermont address its growing shortage of pharmacists.

We expect this event will be much larger than a typical Lunch & Learn as we will be inviting business leaders from other technology companies, as well as folks from area colleges, incubator programs, and venture capital firms. Due to the larger number of attendees, this event will run an extra half hour so as to give everyone a chance to be heard and for folks to have sufficient time to network.

Due to the importance of this event and thanks to a generous, but anonymous sponsor, we are able to lower the fees for this unique Lunch & Learn.

We hope you can join us for this fascinating discussion!
