Managing Software Craftsmanship
For February's Lunch & Learn former vtSDA member Rik Dryfoos will visit from Didit.com to speak about Software Craftsmanship from a management perspective.
Software Craftsmanship has been called the fifth agile value. But agile or not, the principles can be applied to improve many diverse software development environments.
The emerging concept of code craft has enabled a dialog which, as a manager, Dryfoos was previously struggling to have. With the vocabulary of craftsmanship we can discuss the quality of *how* code is written along with more familiar performance-based notions of quality. Dryfoos will introduce the craftsmanship movement and discuss some reasons it might be wisely embraced by management.
We hope you will join us for what promises a very educational discussion for both the manager and developer. RSVP if you plan to attend ... we'll see you in February!

Rik DryfoosEngineering Manager, Development
Mr. Dryfoos began his IT career in the Information Services Group at Ben & Jerry's. He pioneered the use of new media becoming one of the first end users of Apple's QuickTime and building presentations, trainings, web-based and mini-games.
After stints of web application development at ForestWorld in Burlington and web production and project management at Signal Advertising in Montpelier, Dryfoos moved into a development management role at Bear Code in Montpelier. There, he is the Engineering Manager for the development team. His team avidly practices the Agile variant called XP while actively pursuing the notion of Software Craftsmanship.
